Institut Malien de Recherche Action pour la Paix

PARTICIPATORY ACTION RESEARCH
It is based on the conviction that Malians have a thorough knowledge of their context and are therefore in a position to find appropriate solutions for lasting peace in their country.
THE ROLE OF THE IMRAP INSTITUTE
The role of IMRAP is to offer a space for exchange and self-analysis to the populations to enable them to identify the major challenges to peace, with the desired initial result being a self-portrait of Mali and an agenda for peace.
OPPORTUNITIES FOR CHANGE
To define the role of each in the construction of a peaceful Mali. In short, to enable Malians to become true actors of change for the renewal of a desire to live together.
SYSTEMIC ANALYSIS
Systemic analysis wants to go beyond the simplistic logic of cause and effect and linearity as suggested by certain types of analysis, such as the problem tree for example. It suggests making more explicit the complexity of the dynamics that structure a given phenomenon. Instead of focusing on a few root causes, the aim is to identify the structuring dynamics that link all these causes, or factors. These structuring dynamics thus represent sequences of causal connections between several factors. To achieve this, researchers identify the main factors that influence a phenomenon ("causes and effects" in a classical analysis) and then identify the interactions and interdependencies between them. Finally, the researchers ask themselves whether certain sequences/groups of factors influence the system in the broadest sense, beyond simple factors: in other words, structuring dynamics.

AUTHENTICITY

The creation of an inclusive and secure space for dialogue allows participants to express themselves with confidence and freedom. The images from the audio-visual tool and the principles listed above serve as evidence of the respect of the above principles throughout the process and as a report on the different contexts reported.

APPROPRIATION

The results of the consultations throughout the country are not only returned but also validated by the populations consulted to guarantee a faithful presentation of their views and ensure their ownership of the priority actions and solutions to be implemented.

INCLUSIVE

IMRAP consults all segments of the Malian population with the aim of reaching a critical mass of Malians and ensuring a representativeness that legitimizes the results of this exercise. The result: a self-portrait that truly takes into account all points of view.
